GIN GIN HOTEL ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมืองเก่าตรัง ภายในอาคารประวัติศาสตร์ที่มีความเป็นมายาวนานตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2480 ในช่วงยุคแห่งความรุ่งเรืองของการค้าระหว่างตรังและปีนัง อาคารแห่งนี้เคยเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชีวิตและการเดินทางของผู้คนในเมือง ก่อนจะค่อย ๆ ผันตัวไปตามการเปลี่ยนแปลงของยุคสมัย และถูกพัฒนาเป็นอาคารพักอาศัยในรูปแบบอื่น

ภายหลัง อาคารได้รับรางวัลสถาปัตยกรรมทรงคุณค่า และได้รับการยกย่องให้เป็นอาคารควรค่าแก่การอนุรักษ์ ด้วยองค์ประกอบทางสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว ซึ่งยังคงสะท้อนเสน่ห์และเรื่องราวของเมืองตรังในอดีตเอาไว้อย่างชัดเจน หลายรายละเอียดภายในอาคารยังเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้มาเยือนได้สังเกตและค้นพบเสน่ห์เหล่านั้นด้วยตัวเอง

แนวคิดการออกแบบของโครงการ จึงมุ่งเน้นการรักษาจิตวิญญาณของอาคารเดิมไว้ พร้อมตีความใหม่ให้สอดคล้องกับวิถีการพักผ่อนร่วมสมัย โรงแรมถูกพัฒนาให้เป็นบูทีคโฮเทลร่วมสมัยที่ผสมความเรียบง่ายแบบเมืองเข้ากับความอบอุ่นของการต้อนรับแบบท้องถิ่น แทนที่จะเน้นความหวือหวาหรือการสร้างธีมเฉพาะ โครงการเลือกให้ความสำคัญกับความชัดเจน ความสบาย และความรู้สึกคุ้นเคยทางอารมณ์ เพื่อสร้างบรรยากาศที่เข้าถึงง่าย ผ่อนคลาย และเชื่อมโยงกับจังหวะชีวิตของเมืองอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ

ตัวโรงแรมเลือกใช้ภาษาการออกแบบที่เรียบ โมเดิร์น และร่วมสมัย แต่ยังคงรักษาเสน่ห์ที่เป็นกันเองของเมืองเก่าทางภาคใต้เอาไว้ ทั้งงานแบรนด์ดิ้งและการออกแบบประสบการณ์ถูกพัฒนาให้ทำงานต่อเนื่องกัน ตั้งแต่ภาพลักษณ์ภายนอก ล็อบบี้ ห้องพัก ไปจนถึงบรรยากาศของคาเฟ่ภายในโรงแรม เส้นสายสถาปัตยกรรมที่นุ่มนวล วัสดุที่เรียบง่าย และโทนสีที่สงบ ช่วยสร้างบรรยากาศที่ดูร่วมสมัยโดยไม่รู้สึกแข็งหรือห่างเหิน

อีกหนึ่งหัวใจสำคัญของโครงการ คือความตั้งใจที่จะเชื่อมโยงอาคารซึ่งเปรียบเสมือนหัวใจของเมืองตรัง เข้ากับบริบทของชุมชนโดยรอบ ให้ GIN GIN HOTEL ไม่ได้เป็นเพียงจุดหมายของการเข้าพัก แต่เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการออกเดินทางเพื่อเรียนรู้เมือง ผ่านศิลปะ วัฒนธรรม วิถีชีวิต และอาหารการกินของตรังอย่างใกล้ชิด แนวคิดนี้สะท้อนมุมมองของงานออกแบบโรงแรมยุคใหม่ ที่ให้ความสำคัญกับความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้คน เมือง และประสบการณ์

องค์ประกอบบางส่วนจากสถาปัตยกรรมดั้งเดิมยังถูกนำมาต่อยอดเป็นแรงบันดาลใจในการออกแบบอัตลักษณ์ของโรงแรม ทั้งในด้านกราฟิก งานตกแต่ง ป้ายสื่อสาร และบรรยากาศโดยรวม โดยไม่ได้พึ่งพาการตกแต่งที่มากเกินไป แต่เลือกสื่อสารตัวตนผ่านสัดส่วน พื้นผิว ตัวอักษร และรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ ภายในพื้นที่ เพื่อสร้างประสบการณ์ที่ดูเรียบง่าย แต่ผ่านการคิดและออกแบบมาอย่างตั้งใจ

GIN GIN HOTEL จึงเป็นอีกตัวอย่างของการตีความโรงแรมบูทีกร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย ที่ผสมผสานประวัติศาสตร์ สถาปัตยกรรม งานออกแบบ และบริบทของเมืองเข้าด้วยกันอย่างกลมกลืน พร้อมสร้างประสบการณ์การเข้าพักที่อบอุ่น เรียบง่าย และมีความหมาย

GIN GIN HOTEL is located in the heart of Trang Old Town, within a historic building whose story dates back to 1937, during the prosperous trading era between Trang and Penang. The building once played an important role in the daily life and movement of people within the city before gradually evolving alongside changing times and later being adapted into a residential property.

In later years, the building received recognition as an architecturally valuable structure and was officially acknowledged as a heritage-worthy building for conservation. Its distinctive architectural elements continue to reflect the charm and historical character of old Trang, offering visitors the opportunity to discover and appreciate many of these details firsthand.

The design approach for the project focused on preserving the spirit of the original building while reinterpreting it for contemporary hospitality living. GIN GIN HOTEL was developed as a contemporary boutique hotel that combines urban simplicity with the warmth of local hospitality. Rather than relying on overly thematic or decorative expressions, the project prioritises clarity, comfort, and emotional familiarity, creating an atmosphere that feels approachable, relaxed, and naturally connected to the rhythm of the city.

The hotel embraces a clean and modern design language while maintaining the welcoming character of Southern Thailand’s old-town environment. Branding, interior design, and guest experience were carefully developed as one continuous narrative, from the exterior identity and lobby experience to the guestrooms and café atmosphere. Soft architectural lines, restrained materials, and calm tonal palettes help create a contemporary environment without feeling cold or distant.

Another key intention of the project was to reconnect this historic building, often perceived as part of the heart of Trang, with the surrounding local community. GIN GIN HOTEL was envisioned not simply as a place to stay, but as a starting point for travelers to experience and learn about the city through its art, culture, local lifestyle, and food culture. This reflects a contemporary approach to hospitality design that values the relationship between people, place, and experience.

Elements from the original architecture were also reinterpreted as inspiration for the hotel’s visual identity, environmental graphics, signage, and overall atmosphere. Rather than depending on excessive decoration, the project communicates its identity through proportion, texture, typography, and carefully considered spatial details, creating an experience that feels understated yet intentionally crafted.

GIN GIN HOTEL stands as a contemporary interpretation of boutique hospitality in Thailand, where history, architecture, branding, and local context are thoughtfully woven together to create a warm, simple, and meaningful stay experience.
